Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do you accept insurance?
Better Shoulder Physical Therapy is an out of network provider. By operating through a cash-based care system, your physical therapist is able to determine how to prioritize your specific needs without the insurance company limiting the treatment you receive. Our pricing is fully transparent, so there will be no surprises after-the-fact. We may be able to provide a superbill in the future so that you may submit to your insurance company yourself, but that is still in the works!
  • Do I need a doctor’s referral for an appointment?
The state of Florida allows for direct access, meaning that you do not need a prescription from your doctor to start physical therapy. Without a prescription, you have 30 days for treatment for the same body part. If more than 30 days is needed for treatment, you may need a doctor’s referral to continue treatment. This is rarely an issue, and can be discussed with your physical therapist at the beginning of your plan of care.
  • How do I know if I’m appropriate for virtual care?
Virtual care is so exciting, because it gives clients a chance to choose their own provider from a broader range of healthcare practitioners. We really want it to be a good fit! While it may seem counterintuitive to receive physical therapy in a hands-off setting, quality care is about educating and enabling patients to become independent in exercise and movement selection and modification for long term health and best outcomes. Clients will be advised as to the appropriateness of telehealth for rehabilitation or wellness appointments on a case-by-case basis. Please reach out or fill out the contact form to get your questions answered specifically!
  • What are the benefits of cash-only care?
There are no limits to how many visits you are allotted per year, per body part, or per injury. You will always be seen one-on-one, and will never double- or triple-booked with another client at the same time. The physical therapist can treat multiple body parts in the same plan of care if needed. Research has proven 1-on-1 care will decrease the number of visits needed to return the client back to their goals. The frequency of visits is more often only 1x/week instead of 2-3x/week.
  • What Can a Physical Therapist Do?
Physical Therapists carry state licensure and have graduated with their clinical doctorate degree. They are trained to perform medical history reviews, full and detailed evaluations, and diagnose and treat a range of issues related to the musculoskeletal and neuromuscular systems. PTs give you a detailed prognosis and approach to treatment considering the whole person as they guide clients to become less painful and more functional. Physical Therapists can help with -Tendinopathies -Ligament, cartilage, tendon and muscle tissue damage -Arthritis -Pre and post operative care -Gait and running analysis -Strains and sprains -Acute, subacute, and chronic pain -Vestibular treatment for dizziness and balance -Concussion management Just to name a few!
  • What does a mobile PT appointment look like?
If you are in the Tampa Bay area, a mobile physical therapy appointment is one where I come to you and provide evaluations, exercise sessions and home program instructions, joint mobility, soft tissue treatment, dry needling, and everything you could want from a standard clinical appointment. I love to meet people in the area where they plan to exercise in order to check out equipment availability and incorporate what you’ve got into your home program. Wear something comfortable and easy to move in, and don’t worry about the rest!
